Project management
Project Management of multi-disciplinary teams has included an open pit trial mining operation in South Australia (2001), underground base metals operating asset due diligence in China (2013), laterite nickel PFS management in Asia (2010-11) and technical advisor to the owners of a base metals asset in Asia (2006-07).
Contract management & negotiation
Extensively experienced in underground and open pit mining contracts in Australia, New Zealand, Africa and Asia. Directly involved in administration, formulation, pricing, disputation and litigation support for approximately 45 diverse contracts with an aggregate value of more than A$8B. A mining contract dispute resolution process involving an international gold major was successfully completed in 2019.
Strategic planning
Experienced in strategic planning for a wide variety of mining operations, commodities and processing routes. Facilitates the optimisation of corporate and site objectives and constraints. Demonstrated proficient working through major option analyses and focussing on identifying strategic inputs or assumptions. Able to identify and analyse key strategic and commercial drivers and appropriately prioritise secondary drivers.
Drone Technologies
Experienced in drone technology, GoldFern assists clients in establishing effective drone programs to measure, analyse and optimise operations. In 2022 GoldFern helped a client to optimise drone photogrammetric surveying in open pit operations.
Study management
Highly experienced in Study Management. GoldFern has managed many large and small studies for major, mid-cap and junior clients. Routinely manages associates and major consulting groups in collaboration to achieve the clients objectives. Managed a two year concept study (2011-2012) for a gold major to assess refractory processing options to increase gold production at an operation in the Asia Pacific by >600,000oz/annum. Managed a PFS assessing open pit to underground transitioning for an African gold mine 2018-19.
Project start up & expansion
Experienced in operational senior management and operational consulting having been directly involved in mine start-ups and expansions in gold and base metals operations in Asia, South America, Africa and Australia. Successfully managed an Australian EPCM contract during planning and procurement for a major gold flotation circuit upgrade.
Corporate support
Experienced Company Director with a sound understanding of corporate imperatives and operational practicalities. Able to identify and analyse big-picture and strategic questions. Consulted to international banks, nation-state owned entities and corporations in due-diligence roles. Carried JV committee representative responsibility for a 100koz/a gold producer and currently on Operating Committee for Asian mining conglomerate.
Cross cultural team development
GoldFern has worked co-operatively in many different cross cultural and multi-lingual team environments to achieve mentoring and production goals. (Australia, PNG, Tanzania, Botswana, Philippines, Indonesia and Colombia.) Successful transfer of skills and experience is a strong focus and strength.
